Five Charlotte car accident law firms, checked against the State Bar record, Google and their own fee terms.
North Carolina still bars an injured driver who is found even slightly at fault, so who handles a Charlotte crash claim, and how fast, matters more here than in most states. We checked each firm the way you would check any professional before signing: licence, office, fees and what clients say.

0 of 5: firms here publish their contingency fee percentage
All five say you pay no attorney fee unless they recover money for you, and all five offer a free consultation. None of the pages we read prints the percentage, whether it changes if a lawsuit is filed, or who pays case costs if there is no recovery. Ask for the fee agreement before the first meeting ends.

3 years: to file most car crash injury lawsuits in North Carolina
G.S. 1-52 sets three years for personal injury and property damage claims, and G.S. 1-53 sets two years for wrongful death. North Carolina also applies contributory negligence: if a driver is found even 1% at fault, that driver can be barred from recovering. Evidence that fixes fault fades much sooner than either deadline.

$10,000: the small claims limit for property damage you can file yourself
If the crash only damaged your car, you may not need a lawyer at all. North Carolina small claims court in each county hears money claims up to $10,000 before a magistrate, and the process is built for people without lawyers. Injury claims are different, because medical bills and future care quickly pass that limit.

Dewey, Ramsay & Hunt, P.A.
North Charlotte drivers who want an attorney in the first meeting and a small office near I-77
Why it made the list
Dewey, Ramsay & Hunt, P.A. is a small injury firm on Metromont Parkway in north Charlotte, close to the I-77 and I-485 interchange near Northlake Mall. Its car accident lawyers Charlotte page says the first meeting is with an attorney, not an intake rep, and that the firm does not get paid unless the client does. Brian C. Hunt, admitted in North Carolina in 2011, is the attorney most reviews name. Partner Martha L. Ramsay is board certified in workers’ compensation law, per the State Bar record, which matters when the crash happened on the job. The site also has Spanish-language pages.

Your first-call script
QWill Brian Hunt handle my case himself, and who on staff will update me between calls?
QIf I was driving for work when I was hit, can you handle both the workers’ compensation claim and the claim against the other driver?
QWhat percentage do you charge before and after a lawsuit is filed, and who pays case costs if we lose?
From the reviews we read
+ Regular case updates+ Help with insurers and medical bills+ Spanish-language help~ 39 reviews, a modest base
The reviews we read return to steady updates from the attorney and his case staff, help with insurers and medical bills, and Spanish-language help. Several clients say a chiropractor or another lawyer referred them. At 39 reviews the base is the smallest of the four firms with a profile we could check, so read a few recent ones yourself.
Fit and watch-outA good fit if you want a named attorney from the first meeting and an office in north Charlotte. The trade-off: it is a small firm open weekdays only, per its Google listing, so it will not match the 24-hour intake lines larger firms advertise, and its fee percentage is not published.
02
DeMayo Law Offices
People who want a large regional firm with round-the-clock intake and a deep review history
Why it made the list
DeMayo Law Offices is a regional injury firm with its Charlotte office on East Morehead Street in Dilworth and other offices in Hickory, Monroe and more. Its Charlotte car accident lawyer page advertises 24-hour intake, Spanish service and a contingency fee, and the firm states it has recovered more than $1 billion since 1992, which is its own figure. Founder Michael A. DeMayo has been licensed in North Carolina since 1991. With more than 1,700 Google reviews, it has by far the largest review base in this group, and many of those reviews describe the intake investigators who handle the first call.

QAfter the investigator signs me up, which attorney will handle my case, and how often will I hear from them?
QHow many open cases does that attorney carry right now?
QWhat percentage do you charge, and does it rise if the case goes to trial?
From the reviews we read
+ Clear first call with an investigator+ Process explained step by step~ Reviews center on intake staff~ Largest review base here
Most of the reviews we read describe the first contact: an investigator who explained the process clearly, took time with questions and lowered the stress of the first call. Fewer reviews talk about the attorney who later handled the case, so ask who that will be. The review base is large and recent, which makes the themes more reliable than in smaller profiles.
Fit and watch-outA good fit if you value scale, 24-hour access and a long track record in the Charlotte market. The trade-off: you may deal with intake staff and case managers more than with a lawyer early on, and the State Bar record for the founder lists public disciplinary actions, which you can read in full before deciding.
03
Whitley Law Firm Injury Lawyers
Drivers who want a statewide firm with written response promises and bilingual staff
Why it made the list
Whitley Law Firm Injury Lawyers is a statewide firm founded in 1974 and run from Raleigh, with a Charlotte office listed on East Woodlawn Road. Its Charlotte car accident lawyer page explains North Carolina’s 1% contributory negligence rule in more detail than most, and the firm promises clients their attorney’s email and phone number and a reply to messages within 24 hours. It offers service in English and Spanish and a contingency fee. Benjamin H. Whitley, who signs the Charlotte page, is licensed in North Carolina since 2003, and every Whitley attorney we checked is listed with a Raleigh-area address on the State Bar record.

QYour site says you take serious injury cases only. Does my case qualify, and if not, who would you refer me to?
From the reviews we read
+ Answers on the first call+ Callbacks when promised~ Reviews include non-car cases~ 24 reviews on the Charlotte listing
The reviews we read praise case workers who answered on the first call and called back when promised. Several reviews describe other kinds of cases, including Camp Lejeune water claims, so the profile is not only car crash clients. With 24 reviews on the Charlotte listing, the local base is small for a firm of this size.
Fit and watch-outA good fit if you want clear written service promises and a firm with five decades in North Carolina injury law. The trade-off: the attorneys we found on the State Bar record are Raleigh-based, so ask how often a lawyer will be in Charlotte, and the firm says it takes only serious injury cases.
04
Payne Law Firm
People who want an uptown office and a firm that works injury cases in both Texas and North Carolina
Why it made the list
Payne Law Firm has its Charlotte office on South Tryon Street in uptown and its main office in Houston, and says it has represented injury clients since 2004. Its Charlotte car accident attorney page focuses on fighting contributory negligence defenses, mentioning traffic cameras, witness interviews and accident reconstruction, and notes that Medical Payments coverage can pay some bills regardless of fault. Founder Jason E. Payne is licensed in North Carolina since 2020 with a Houston bar address. Sierra Robertson, admitted in North Carolina in 2025 and listed in Charlotte, is the attorney the recent reviews name.

QWhat percentage do you charge, and how do you handle Medical Payments coverage while fault is disputed?
From the reviews we read
+ Kept informed through the case+ Named attorney praised~ 14 reviews, several years old
The reviews we read describe a responsive attorney who kept the client informed through the whole case. One older review describes a crash with a commercial truck that the client felt was resolved quickly. At 14 reviews, several of them several years old, the base is the smallest of the firms with a profile we could check.
Fit and watch-outA good fit if you want an uptown office and a firm that leads with its plan for contributory negligence fights. The trade-off: the Charlotte attorney named in reviews was admitted in 2025, the founder is based in Houston, and the review base is small.

NC Car Accident Lawyers
Drivers who want a firm that says it handles vehicle crash cases only
Why it made the list
NC Car Accident Lawyers lists a Charlotte office at 601 East Boulevard, Suite 100-A, in Dilworth, plus offices in Raleigh and Durham. Its Charlotte car accident lawyer page says the firm handles only vehicle crashes, including cars, trucks, motorcycles and rideshare, and offers 24/7 availability, Spanish-language pages and a free case review with no fee unless it wins. The page describes starting each case with the DMV-349 crash report, camera footage and witness statements. We could not find an individual lawyer named on the pages we read, and we could not find a Google profile for the Charlotte office.

QWhich North Carolina lawyer will handle my case, and what is their State Bar number?
QIs the East Boulevard office staffed by that lawyer, and can I meet there in person?
QYour page lists a Charlotte number and a separate 864 number. Which one reaches your Charlotte office?
From the reviews we read
We could not confirm a Google Business Profile for the Charlotte office, so we did not code review themes. The two testimonials on the firm’s own page are chosen by the firm and are first-name only. Ask for the name of the North Carolina lawyer who would handle your case and look them up on the State Bar directory before you sign.
Fit and watch-outA good fit on paper if you want a firm that says it does nothing but vehicle crashes. The trade-off: no lawyer is named on the pages we read, the phone numbers on the page differ, and we could not check a Google profile, so the first call has to settle who you are actually hiring.

Six things to get in writing before you hire a Charlotte car accident lawyer
The fee percentage, both ways. None of the five firms publishes its percentage. Get the figure in the signed agreement, and whether it rises if a lawsuit is filed or the case goes to trial.
Costs if there is no recovery. Filing fees, records, experts and depositions are separate from the fee. The agreement should say whether you owe them if the case is lost.
The lawyer who handles the case. Ask for the name and State Bar number of the attorney responsible for your file, and look it up on the NC State Bar membership directory yourself.
Settlement approval. The firm should not accept or reject an offer without your consent. Ask how offers are sent to you and how long you have to decide.
Medical bills and liens. Ask how the firm handles health insurance liens, hospital bills and Medical Payments coverage, and whether lien reductions come out of its fee or your share.
Referrals and co-counsel. If the firm refers your case out or brings in another firm, North Carolina’s Rule 1.5(e) requires your written consent to the fee split. Ask now.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a car accident lawyer cost in Charlotte?
+
All five firms here work on contingency and offer a free consultation, so there is no upfront fee. None of them publishes its percentage, so ask for the signed fee agreement and whether the rate rises if a lawsuit is filed.
How long do I have to file a car accident claim in North Carolina?
+
Most injury and property damage lawsuits must be filed within three years under G.S. 1-52. Wrongful death claims generally have two years under G.S. 1-53. Evidence such as camera footage disappears much sooner, so earlier is safer.
Can I recover if I was partly at fault for the crash?
+
Usually not. North Carolina applies contributory negligence, so a driver found even 1% at fault can be barred from recovering. Narrow exceptions exist, such as last clear chance, which is why fault evidence matters so much here.
Do I need a lawyer if only my car was damaged?
+
Often not. North Carolina small claims court hears money claims up to $10,000 before a magistrate under G.S. 7A-210, and it is designed for people without a lawyer. Claims with injuries usually call for a lawyer.
How do I check a Charlotte lawyer before hiring?
+
Search the NC State Bar membership directory by name. It shows whether the lawyer is active, the admission date, any board certification and links to any public disciplinary orders. We checked each named lead attorney on this page that way.
Which of these firms has an office in north Charlotte?
+
Dewey, Ramsay & Hunt, P.A. is on Metromont Parkway near Northlake. DeMayo is on East Morehead Street, Whitley on East Woodlawn Road, Payne on South Tryon Street uptown, and NC Car Accident Lawyers lists East Boulevard.

How we checked these firms+
This is a shortlist of five law firms that advertise car accident representation in Charlotte, not a ranking. For each firm we read its own Charlotte car accident page for office, phone, fee terms, focus and service promises, then searched the North Carolina State Bar membership directory for the lead attorney’s status, admission date, board certification and any public discipline.
We checked each firm’s Google Business Profile for address, phone, hours, rating and review count, and read the review text ourselves; themes are our summary, not quotes. Results, years and recovery totals are labelled as the firm’s own statements. The legal summaries come from the North Carolina General Statutes, not from firm blogs.
